Alloway Church Hall Tuesday 10:00 -12:00

Leader William Kerr 01292 441899

This Group, the forth established in Drawing and Art, started in January 1999, with 12 members. It has since grown to a regular 20 members and there is a waiting list of 13 who have expressed an interest in joining.

It is a mixed ability class and makes progress through direct teaching, from simple basics in drawing and paintings to more advanced subjects and techniques.

While learning and gaining experience are desirable aims, there is a strong emphasis on the enjoyment of a relaxing and satisfying hobby and the companionship of like minded people.

Drawing & Art 6

Alloway Church Hall Wednesday 13:30-15:30

Leader Carol Hayes

This is the most recently formed of the Art Groups, and it is hard to believe that we are now into our fourth year. We're a friendly crowd with a diverse range of interests and abilities. Each member is
encouraged to pursue his or her own course at a pace which suits best. Instruction and advice are available when required, but there is no pressure.

Last year we decided to expand our horizons and several group members visited the "Glasgow Boys" exhibition At Kelvingrove Art Gallery. Despite it being a long day, everyone present had a most
enjoyable time and vowed to repeat the experience sometime.

We did that just a few weeks later, when a smaller group of the more physically able among us ventured even further afield and visited the "Impressionist Gardens" exhibition at the Royal Scottish Academy in
Edinburgh . The weather was dreadful, but it didn't dampen our spirits, and those who made the trip considered that although exhausting, the day had been a success. We are hoping to arrange more
outings of a similar nature in the future.

As several new members have joined the group this session, our numbers are at full capacity at present.

Family History

Carnegie Library

Leader Sheila West 01292 477881

The OIR Family History Course is held in the Meeting Room in the Carnegie Library on an irregular basis. This is an informal class where we meet and pass on helpful tips and experience with each other. We also look at various sources and discuss how they can help our research.

For those wishing to investigate and build their family tree this is the group for them. Get advice on getting started and explore census data held in the library or go online and explore births, deaths and marriage records.

French (Advanced)

Belmont Academy Monday 15.00-16:30

Leader Denise Fisher 0044 o7871 556020

Not sure if your French is at the right level for joining this class?. If you can read and understand the text below your French is good enough so contact Denise.

1. le titre – il s’agit bel et bien d’un cours avancé – par exemple, je ne donne pas de grammaire ;

Gardening

Mansionfield Glasshouse, Auchincruive Friday 13:30-15:00

Leader John Lucas

Visiting the gardening group was a bit like returning home for I used to work at Auchincruive. Diplomas in horticulture from Auchincruive were very sought after but the glory days have gone. Fortunately several of the glass houses remain and the gardening group now use them to grow their own plants. They were all seated out in the sunshine listening to a talk from their leader, John Lucas, when I arrived. Next week I would have missed them for they also visit gardens as part of their varied agenda.

People in the group tend to stay in the group for a number of years so its a bit difficult to get in. If you wish to join you will be put on a waiting list to March when a decision will be made as to numbers the group can take.
